What exactly happened anyway?

All I know is that I was doing fine with work, and then the phone stopped ringing. I went from 70-90 a month, to 30 last month. This month looks like it's going to be even worse, like maybe ZERO. I know "interest rates went up", but I don't know why or how. Can anyone explain to me what happened?

I remember last time, we saw it first. We were all slammed and in a panic, and it was a couple of months before the news said there was a problem with the economy. They acted surprised, but we knew. If we are out of work, and the all people who hire us have no work, and the borrower's cash flow is stifled, then, overall, this is bad for everyone across the nation. We are just seeing (and feeling it), first. How can raising rates possibly be good for the economy? It's like stopping the music on musical chairs: every has to grab what they have an sit tight until the music starts again (and pray that you are not the one squeezed out of the game).

I wonder if we can get a government bail-out?

Not sure - very quiet here too - has been for couple

months but I chalked it up to summertime...

Thankfully this is not my sole means of support so I can weather the storm a bit better than some others (and I do feel for you who do rely on this)...but this income IS important to supplement my Social Security and bring me up to what I was making before I retired.

Am looking into tax prep to maybe fill the gaps. Wonder how many mobile tax preparers there are around here? I'd wager not many... Smile

So, CJ presumably you have socked away some of that money

I wish you well. I have some SS, a reverse mortgage on my house and my Plan B. I still need to supplement with a little bit more. But I can cut some of my expenses if I had to.

Opposite situation here in Humboldt County, CA

Last week was one of my busiest in a long time. This week a little less, but I already have 2 for Monday. Most of my calls are from Servicelink, which I recently signed up with again after they dropped their XYZ BGC requirement. I am wondering who they used to slam with jobs when I was not on their list!

Be careful with Service Link...look at the reviews on Signing Central. There are three posts this month regarding payment problems.

Be interesting to watch and see how many post "I always get paid by them."

Re: Opposite situation here in Humboldt County, CA

I had problems with their convoluted online payment system at first. I had a rep stay on the phone with me to figure it out, had then e-mail me instructions to follow, and it still took awhile to get the hang of it. If I don't get paid, believe me I will post about it. I can see why people are not getting paid, as their system is a bit mysterious. I did not know I was a Former ATM prof, whatever that is...
