confirmations

When you accept a signing and two days later you have not received a confirmation, do you assume they forgot and wait for documents. Or, do you accept a signing for the same appointment time.
There is no way you can call the title company to check as you have no order number or name.

I call the hiring party within one hour if I don't have the confirmation, why wait 2 days?

I have a smartphone so I always have the number available. I may accept the job if I am away from my computer but as soon as I can I go on NR and check the company. If this person has not sent me a confirmation within one hour I call them back to find out and tell them at that time I will be filling that time spot unless I receive a written confirmation by email within 15 minutes of speaking with them.

If I still don't have a written confirmation I move on and accept the next call for a time slot close to that one.

I will usually only hold a time for a confirmation for about 20 min to 1 hr. (max) After that, I will contact the company to let them know that in order for me continue to hold the time for them I have to receive a confirmation within 5 min from my request. After that, I unblock the time for anyone else.

If I book the time with someone else then receive a confirmation from the first company, I contact them and let them know that time is no longer available. Depending upon the situation that caused the delay in the confirmation being sent, I may offer an alternate time or let them know that I am booked for the day. If it was an honest mistake or something I can reconcile, I will try to work with them. If it was just a case of someone being disorganized or if I feel they were shopping around, I'll drop them from my list of acceptable clients to accept work from. My feelings; if they are that disorganized when it comes to confirming the signing, more than likely, they will be just as disorganized when it comes to paying me on time.

Why would you wait 2 days for confirm?

If nothing in email within hour, I make a call and if still nothing that slot is open till I get another appointment.

Re: Why would you wait 2 days for confirm?

Same as the others. Wait no more than an hour. Contact 'em, let 'em know still have not received confirmation and if not received within the next 15 minutes, time slot is up for grabs.

There's really no excuse for it taking so long to send out confirmation -- unless they're shopping around. And, if that's the case, maybe I don't want to work with someone so wishy-washy. Wink

Pat-basic business 101: confirm who you're talking to, etc

before you hang up. I know schedulers frequently rattle off their name & co name--but you have to be in charge of the call too. If you like what you hear on location, time, & $--you can keep them on the line to get the name of the company, at least. It seems the worst "rattlers" are companies that have a bad rep anyway & are trying to disguise who they are actually representing. It's the only way you'll be able to check them out & avoid sharks!

Re: Pat-basic business 101: confirm who you're talking to, etc

Completely agree. Unless it's someone I regularly work with, I nearly always make sure I get the person's name, co name and a number where I can call them back in case the confirmation gets "lost". I've had situations where they just had a typo with my email address or it ended up in my spam folder for some reason and I didn't think to look there. That way, I'm not left hanging and wondering - unless they don't answer the phone, but at least I have a way of trying to reach them.

That has happened to me before, and sometimes you can't

get the info of who you are talking to (in a closing, on the road, in the bathroom shower!) and the person called restricted, or the number they called from is one of those that don't accept incoming calls (like a call center.) This should depend on the company you accepted the signing from. For reputable companies, I always went with the closing as always still "on" and I just waited until I received docs and then asked to resend the confirmation. Only once I never received a confirmation OR docs, and I knew not to hold the time slot for this company (Nations Direct.) This doesn't happen often, but you should know your clients well enough to know if they book you, you should reserve the time slot.

not busy

If I had a lot of business, I would be more concerned. Business has been really slow

Putting the shoe on the other foot, there are companies that want you to respond to their confirmation immediately or within an hour, and will drop you from that signing if you don't. Sometimes you are in the middle of something (or someplace) where you can't immediately respond. Is that unreasonable of them?

However, I will not hold a spot open for longer than a couple hours, never two days.

I think so, but I don't have their headaches. If you know that company has that policy, tell them you are otherwise engaged and won't meet that deadline while taking the appt....let them notate that right away.

I think most people operate on a two-way street.
