Was watching part of the women's road race, (cycling) about 3/4 of the race, saw the only Austrian with a commanding lead. I believe it was an 85 mile race. Anyway, the Austrian was by herself from almost the start, had no one to draft from, so it was all her. At about 9.5 K left, the rest of the pack started to make their move. Now, mind you, the 4 cyclists from the Netherlands were favored to at least get Gold. Now, with about 3K left, the Netherland cyclist and 3 time Olympian Van Vieutan separates herself from the pack. When she reaches the finish line ahead of Borghini of Italy, she raises her hands as if she had won the Gold. Sadly, she had forgotten about Kielanhofer of Austria who won the race. Just shows how focused they must be for that length of time. |
