According to our State Dept of Health, the omicron variant has now been found in Texas.
The media here is already starting to hype this, but here's the thing...
So far, I have not heard of anyone dying from it or even being hospitalized because of it. I HAVE read that those found to be infected by it have had mild symptoms. I have also read that the new strain has picked up pieces of another coronavirus - the common cold.
It's still too soon to tell, but maybe we should all take a step back and breathe for a bit. IF the new strain is less deadly, and IF it is actually sharing characteristics with the common cold, MAYBE we're starting to see a light at the end of this tunnel - MAYBE as the virus continues to mutate, it weakens. Wouldn't that be an awesome thing?
Not saying that's what is happening - the jury is still out - but I don't think it's time to give in to the media panic. They used to do that to sell papers; now they do it to get clicks. Ignore the pundits and just follow the science. |
