From what I've read recently, it's being used only for extreme cases - sort of a "Hail Mary" pass when nothing else is working. It's definitely not a miracle cure that all patients can be given - it can kill people with underlying heart problems because the combination of the two drugs can cause heart arrhythmias.
But I understand your point - if I'm in bad shape, do whatever you need to do because the worst case is that the result is going to be the same either way.
