John, first off, let me say thank you for your service. And I appreciate your opinions on world affairs. To me, soldiers have more rights to their opinions than anyone else because they have fought for the freedom of this country and I hold the military in high regard. You are right about one thing, this country doesn't have the stomach to do whats necessary to defeat it's enemies. I also agree that we should have finished the job in Afghanistan. To me, there aren't enough troops over there to do the job. In the Gulf War, we had somewhere in the neighborhood of 600,000 troops, today around 130,000 or so. Had we finished the job then, we had the troop strength to secure the borders, where as we don't right now. Had there ever been a real thought of finishing the job then, I'm sure they would have had an exit strategy. But again, I don't believe that Bush1 ever had the intention of finishing the job. What we need is another Ronald Reagan and right now I don't see anyone on the ballot to fit the bill. Now if Fred Thompson enters?? Maybe we have hope. |
