" When Trump signed the $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief act, he included a “signing statement" saying he would ignore the law’s provisions for an independent inspector general overseeing the disbursal of funds for corporate bailouts. He said the provision intrudes on the rights of the executive to block information from Congress, and he would not treat “spending decisions as dependent on prior consultation with or the approval of” Congress.
Trump wants the $500 billion slush fund to be under his control -- to award his family and friends, punish his enemies, and intimidate the private sector into supporting his reelection.
This would be illegal and unconstitutional under normal circumstances. In the midst of a national health crisis, it's morally repugnant, too. Trump has no scruples when it comes to seizing wealth and power. His botched response to the pandemic, coupled with his lies, have already exposed millions of Americans unnecessarily to sickness and death. Now, he's intent on taking the money and running.
We cannot allow this man to occupy the Oval office beyond one term."
