She's brighter than the cop who stopped her again and the TX legislators who wrote the law. First ticket dismissed, which proved her point - under Texas law, a fetus is a person, so a fetus counts as the second person in the HOV lane.
Again - she's not making a pro-chice statement - she wanted to have the baby. She just felt that if that's what the law says, that's what it means - if a fetus is a person, then a pregnant woman in a car means there are two people in the car. You can't have it both ways - either it's a person, or it's not. You can;t be a living breathing person in some circumstances and not in others.
Our legislature meets again in January. Maybe they can iron out the stupidity of writing a law quickly without considering its consequences. |
