Fogel's case is very similar to Griner's, but he was just as anonymous to most Americans (and members of Congress) as Paul Whelan until this past week. I think the difference was that in Fogel's case he was actually in possession of pot, where Griner was caught with a vape device and (I think) CBD, which while not the same as pot is still illegal in many countries.
I suspect it will easier to make some kind of a trade for him in the future than it will be for Whelan, who is charged with espionage - they're gonna want a spy for a spy for Whelan, at least, despite the fact that both the US government and Whelan's employer have insisted that he's NOT a spy. |
