I never said he was dishonorably discharged - I said (in another post) that he received a bad conduct discharge.
Why let Russia dictate the terms? Because we had nothing to bargain with - Whelan was arrested on espionage charges (which were false), and the Russians will exchange him for a spy - and we have none to offer. Germany has a Russian spy in custody, but had no interest in trading him.The choice was Griner for Bout, or nothing.
Bout's been out of action for 14 years - do you really think he's just going to pick up where he left off? We'll probably hear about him falling out a window in ythe next couple of months. And what evidence do you have that Griner"hated America"?
Are you saying that you would prefer she stay in a Russian penal colony until we can get Whelan out? Seriously?
In a negotiation, you take what you can get, especially when you're not dealing from a position of strength.
As far as Trump is concerned, please spare us the fanboy stuff. Trump turned down the deal because he wasn't interested in Whelan, not because he thought it was a bad deal. He didn't care. If he did, he would have been negotiating for his release. He had two years to deal with this and did ZERO. The idea that Trump is a master negotiator is a fantasy that comes from Trump himself, and is not backed up by any evidence. Look at what he got in exchange for the release of 5000 Taliban prisoners - NOTHING. Or what he got from North Korea in exchange for stopping war games with South Korea - once again NOTHING. So tell me again how strong Trump is.
And just FYI, I don't have any lemmings. |
