If you remember I posted on the board that I had lost my beloved Nutmeg the day after a friend I considered a brother was buried in England. I didn't tell you how my friend died. he was a victim of the National Health Service system in England (the "higher ups" are investigating his death). The good doctors in England are mostly in private practice, not the NHS.
My friend was under his doctors care, he had had "the runs" - to put it politely - for over 2 weeks (17 days). The doctor told him no-one had ever died from " the runs" (REALLY!!!)
He finally admitted him to hospital, where he was put in intensive care. He was in intensive care for over 2 weeks. Then they had some emergencies come in and were short of beds in intensive care, so they moved him to isolation. They kept him there one day, and sent him home - shortage of beds - they assured his wife he would be fine. The next day she called the ambulance for him again as he wasn't fine. He didn't make it until the ambulance arrived.
That is the National Health Service in England! Years ago my sister had to wait a year for a gall bladder operation.
They closed down the hospital in my home town because of shortage of funds and nurses.
You are lucky if you get a doctor that speaks English, and it is hard to communicate with them.
Oh - and for those who are under the impression that the NHS in England is a free service, it isn't - they take a portion of the paychecks to cover it, and it is a substantial sum. And those that opt for private medical insurance, still have to pay the NHS premium as well as their private insurance premium.
I just hope that we don't ever get a National Health Service in this country. |
