I heard a comment on the radio the other day about a doctor in California who stated that he is required by law to provide emergency care, but that too many people were using the emergency rooms for routine care. He wanted to refuse care for non-emergencies to anyone who came to the emergency room of the hospital where he worked, regardless of national status (which means legal or illegal). So, he was FIRED!
I don't know where in California that was, but I believe he was right--national status is not the main problem, although it is a heavy factor. The problem is too many don't want to take care of themselves, and believe they're entitled to services those of us who work for our money should provide. And California is just a tip of the iceberg across the country. |
