closing the border
By Art_MD on 1/29/24 1:48pm

We are hearing from Biden that he needs congressional authority to close the border.
That is patently false.
Under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 - passed by congress - title 8 section 1182

Quote the president can suspend the entry of " any alien or any class of aliens into the united states (who) would be detrimental to the interest of the United States"

or

8 USC 1182 (f)
What biden is trying to do is get congress to pass an unnecessary bill to appear to do something about what he now admits is a crisis and get some existing tools superceded so he can cry " i can't do anything"

He could sign an exectutive order like this...

Effective Feb 1, 2024 entry of non legal residents into the US is suspended except for those who have applied for, and granted, a visa at a US embassy or consulate. This suspension is for a period of xxxxxx

Begs the ?, Was the leak really an accident, or a test run?
By Moneyman/TX on 1/25/24 1:47pm

After reading the linked news reports and watching the video (below), I don't believe the question in the headline can be simply written off as some "conspiracy theory" by the average person, regardless of their political leanings.
Agree/Disagree? Let's have a discussion.

Based on how, and the specific demographics of the population in general, the original strain of China's COVID-19 affected and infected (i.e. largely, the older and/or individuals with compromised health issues) personally, I have always wondered if it was not being created as some form of 'population control' for China to possibly use on it's own citizens (with population growth and shrinking natural resources, could the CCP's "one child" policy not actually be as effective enough for the CCP), or for to be used against a perceived CCP enemy State.

For the most part, the original strain didn't infect young children or young people. The younger adult population that were infected, basically had similar outcomes as a bad case of the flu and an extremely low mortality rate as a result. Although the overall mortality rate in the U.S. was (as the government now admits) was less than the average flu season mortality rates, the elderly and those with compromised immune systems were the ones with the more sever symptoms and a much higher mortality rate than others in the general population.

After what the lab in China inflicted on the entire world, it is now being reported that a Chinese Lab has created an even deadlier (100% death rate) strain of COVID. WTH!!??

IMO, these labs need to be stopped and the entire world needs to ensure that China sees a regime change with the CCP (to borrow a phrase from JFK) needs to be shattered into a thousand pieces. The Chinese people, nor the world population, deserve to see just how many more deadly viruses China labs can create; especially those labs with a bad track record regarding safety protocols to protect against Lab Leaks of said created deadly viruses.

Lab Lunacy: China Creates Mutant COVID Strain
By Corey Olson
Jan 24, 2024

The Chinese are at it again. Four years after the coronavirus emanated from Wuhan, China leading to a global pandemic, Chinese scientists are conducting gain-of-function research on that same coronavirus. A new report ( http://tinyurl.com/mr4y3jf2 ) says scientists affiliated with the Chinese military recently engineered a mutant strain of coronavirus that was lethal in 100% of lab mice. The mice themselves were also genetically mutated, leading to questions about the safety and efficacy of these experiments.

"I think until we really have a better debate about whether there is any value in this gain-of-function research, we ought to have a moratorium on it," says Dr. Robert Redfield, former CDC director in an interview with Fox News ( http://tinyurl.com/3h4rhw49 ) "Clearly, we don't have the biocontainment up to par to do this kind of research. I think it is very dangerous."

The research is especially dangerous, considering the growing evidence that the original COVID-19 pandemic stemmed from a leak during gain-of-function research at the Wuhan laboratory. At the same time, new evidence shows China withheld vital info ( http://tinyurl.com/ym2szpfv ) about COVID-19 from the world in the early days of the pandemic. Both Dr. Anthony Fauci and his former boss at the National Institutes for Health (NIH), Dr. Francis Collins, now admit ( http://tinyurl.com/2p8ffauu ) the lab leak theory is credible, after they discredited it as a "distraction" or "conspiracy theory" throughout the pandemic.

Redfield says U.S. leaders should have been more forthcoming and open-minded about the virus from the start, rather than pushing one narrative. "They did this, I think, largely because they thought they were protecting science, and the science they were protecting is this gain-of-function research that they want to do," Redfield tells Fox. "But in fact, they did the opposite. I think we've lost a lot of credibility in both the NIH and the CDC, unfortunately, because of their lack of transparency."

And let's not forget about Fauci's discovered emails instructing others not to mention any possible lab leak as the source (thus promoting the fake idea that any Lab Leak discussions were simply "right-wing conspiracy theories", while he knew the truth all along).

Tell me it isn't so
By  Mike Goodey on 1/23/24 11:01pm

I was watching Kcal 9 news and up pops a commercial for Adam Schiff running for senator of California. Isn't this the same Adam Schiff who claimed to have evidence of Russian collusion involving Donald trump which turned out to be a hoax.
Still waiting for Schiff to show the evidence he kept insinuating that he had possession of.

Adam, did your dog eat the evidence? Did you misplace it or was it nothing but your imagination?
And you expect us to vote you into the office of senator?

Mayorkas
By  Mike Goodey on 1/23/24 7:37pm

Well, well. Finally! Joe Biden has admitted that the southern border is NOT SECURE!!!!!!!
But wait...hasn't the Homeland Security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reported for so many months that the border is secure? Well, they can't both be correct. If Biden is correct that means that Mayorkas has been lying to the American people and Congress for months.
If Mayorkas is telling the truth, then that makes Biden look like a fool for not knowing what's going on.
I would think that Mayorkas is the guilty one and would expect Biden to can his butt soon. How do you keep someone you appointed to a position who keeps lying to Congress and to the American people that the border is secure when you yourself have admitted on national television that it is not secure.

Here’s an article about the
By SC/CA on 1/3/24 10:46am

resignation of Harvard President, Claudine Gay.

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67869624

Some excerpts:

Although allegations of plagiarism in her (Dr. Gay) doctoral thesis were a factor in her exit from Harvard's top job, her departure is more than just an academic dishonesty scandal.

Dr Gay landed in hot water in December for her participation in a congressional hearing panel about antisemitism on college campuses. The tepid, bureaucratic answers by the panellists, including Dr Gay, on how to deal with calls for Jewish genocide prompted the resignation of University of Pennsylvania president Liz Magill.

After that episode, Harvard offered continued support for Dr Gay's tenure as president. But the battle was not over.
For her right-wing critics, Dr Gay - who is black - represents much of what they loathe about modern American higher education, which they view as being dominated by a left-wing ideology that places a greater emphasis on ethnic and gender diversity than on academic rigour.

The plagiarism allegations that led to Dr Gay's resignation were surfaced by Christopher Rufo, a right-wing activist best known for the cultural battle over alleged teaching of Critical Race Theory in US schools.
In a December social media post, Mr Rufo laid out what is a now-familiar strategy for conservatives seeking to generate coverage of stories they believe the mainstream media are ignoring.

We launched the Claudine Gay plagiarism story from the right," Mr Rufo wrote. The next step is to smuggle it into the media apparatus of the left, legitimizing the narrative to centre-left actors who have the power to topple her. Then squeeze.

In her resignation letter, Dr Gay said she was "subjected to personal attacks and threats fuelled by racial animus", adding that the last few weeks had made clear that more must be done to "combat bias and hate in all its forms".

"So what we've learned is this: Bad-faith bigots pretending they're concerned about antisemitism will happily use women of colour - especially black women - as a scapegoat and lightning rod for large systemic issues," wrote novelist Celeste Ng on social media. "And that people invested in maintaining those systemic issues will comply."

Hunter in trouble again?
By  Mike Goodey on 12/8/23 1:22pm

Hunter Biden is being indicted with 3 felonies and 6 misdemeanors. There is one gun charge and mostly tax evasion crimes. Apparently he has paid the IRS taxes he owed.
So why go after him now? Election time!! If Hunter is found guilty dad won't run because of the embarrassment to the family. He paid back taxes he owed, a directive Joe and other top democrats kept harping on that "The rich need to pay their share."

Too bad they didn't go after him for the crimes he committed in 2014 and 2015 when dad was vice president.
Will be interesting to see if he gets a "fair" trial in any of the blue states where the charges are looming. He could face 17 years in prison if convicted of all charges...fat chance!!

I was also struck by what Moneyman/TX said about his discourse with MikeC/TX, and the respect that was garnished, even within opposing views.

State vs state debate
By  Mike Goodey on 12/2/23 2:53pm

How about that debate between DeSantis and Newsom? Newsom looked like a deer with its eyes stuck in the headlights of a car and can't move! He referred to DeSantis as a bully because Newsom really couldn't give honest answers.
Thought Newsom was going to cry he was being bullied so badly. But DeSantis really didn't look really good either, at least not as a presidential candidate. It really wasn't much of anything except trashing each others states.

We all know Newsom will be picked to run when they get Biden out of the way.
Be honest, put a plaid jacket on Newsom and a cigar in his mouth and doesn't he look like a crooked, slick, shady used car salesman?

Welcomed news, to fight fake news.
By SC/CA on 11/10/23 11:38am

http://calmatters.org/education/k-12-education/2023/11/fake-news-california-school/

CalMatters, a nonpartisan organization for California news, has a recent article about introducing media literacy curriculum to K-12 schools to teach students how to recognize fake news.

This is such great news! I remember a co-worker, ions ago before the digital age, who believed what they read in People magazine. Articles, like “ Elvis is alive, seen at airport, being pushed in wheelchair by JFK.” Which was a real article. With social media, it has shifted far beyond the innocent not-so-bright bulb believing People magazine articles.

An excerpt:

“Ormsby teaches concepts like ‘lateral reading’ (comparing an online article with other sources to check for accuracy) and reverse imaging (searching online to trace a photo to its original source or checking if it’s been altered). She also provides lesson plans, resources and book recommendations such as ‘True or False: A CIA analyst’s guide to spotting fake news’ and, for elementary students, ‘Killer Underwear Invasion! How to spot fake news, disinformation & conspiracy theories.’

She’s happy that the law passed, but would like to see librarians included in the rollout and the curriculum implemented immediately, not waiting until the frameworks are updated.

AB 873 passed nearly unanimously in the Legislature, underscoring the nonpartisan nature of the topic. Nationwide, Texas, New Jersey and Delaware have also passed strong media literacy laws, and more than a dozen other states are moving in that direction, according to Media Literacy Now, a nonprofit research organization that advocates for media literacy in K-12 schools.”

By Moneyman/TX on 11/3/23 6:18pm

Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir, are refusing to work on Tuesday."

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67195224

Some excerpts:

Iceland has been ranked the best country in the world for gender equality by the World Economic Forum (WEF) for 14 years in a row. But the country is not completely equal, with the WEF assigning it an overall score of 91.2%.

"We're seeking to bring attention to the fact that we're called an equality paradise, but there are still gender disparities and urgent need for action," said Freyja Steingrimsdottir, one of the strike organisers, in quotes cited by Reuters news agency.

"The theory was that the more gender equality, the less violence. That unfortunately does not seem to be the case," she said, adding: "Violence against women is deeply rooted in our culture."

Former Icelandic president Vigdís Finnbogadóttir told the BBC in 2015 that the 1975 strike was "the first step for women's emancipation in Iceland," which paved the way for her to become the first woman to be democratically elected head of state in the world in 1980.

http://www.reuters.com/world/europe/icelandic-women-24-hour-strike-over-inequality-2023-10-24/

REYKJAVIK, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Icelandic women went on a 24-hour strike on Tuesday over gender inequality, including the prime minister, who said the fight for equal treatment was moving far too slowly at home and abroad.

"Looking at the whole world, it could take 300 years to achieve gender equality," Jakobsdottir told the Ras 1 public radio station.

The strike was called to protest gaps in pay compared to men and gender-based violence, as well as to highlight unpaid work such as childcare that often falls on women, organisers said.

"We are celebrating ... our foremothers, our role models for equality," said Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir, 58, an Icelandic lawmaker. "We need equality, we need justice, we need freedom, so this is a message here from Iceland, we have to stand together."

With a population of less than 400,000, Iceland is regarded as one of the world's most progressive countries in terms of gender equality and has topped the World Economic Forum's gender gap index 14 years in a row.

Gov Newsom couldn't find a single qualified resident in CA?
By Moneyman/TX on 10/15/23 6:09pm

In order to check some of his self-imposed stupid identity politics boxes, Gov. Newsom appointed ** a resident of Maryland ** rather than look for a qualified Californian to represent Californians; and nothing but praise from special interest groups and the Democratic Party?

It is obvious that he, the party cheerleaders, those special interest groups, and the citizens of CA who back his choice, have lost their minds and haven't a clue what the job of a U.S. Senator really is.

As pointed out in the linked article on Slate (not anything close to a right-wing organization, just saying http://tinyurl.com/mr3rbh4s ) "Before her swearing-in, however, senators will have an opportunity to object—and there is a possibility that Republicans will do so on the grounds that she is a resident of Maryland, not California, and thus constitutionally disqualified from representing the Golden State."
On principle alone, but also based on the Constitution & California's own laws, I hope they do object. Enough of this crazy Identity Politics crap.

What does the fact that he could not find, or be bothered to even look for, a single qualified person who is actually a CA resident say about what he thinks of the citizens he is supposed to be representing himself?

Here is an article in The National Law Review on Newsom's move http://tinyurl.com/3e7t3wpp

California's Elections Code Section 10720 states, in part:

(a) If a vacancy occurs in the representation of this state in the Senate of the United States, the Governor may appoint and commission an elector of this state who possesses the qualifications for the office to temporarily fill the vacancy until a person is elected at a statewide general election ...

"an elector of this state who possesses the qualifications" -- A resident of Maryland is NOT an "elector of this state (California)", are they?
