Regardless of if this board is "Just Politics" or "Discuss Work", this website is called NOTARYrotary. Furthermore, the fact that a Notary Public (a commissioned officer of the state) posted a message calling for the death of a sitting president (which, according to her later posts appears to have been meant as a tongue-in-cheek post) is not just a step over the line, it's a massive pole-vault over the line.
She has her freedom of speech, and I don't take her comment as a serious threat so much as a poorly thought out reply to someone with whom she agrees. But what if a member of the public wandered in here and saw that? What if it caught the attention of serious people whose job it is to investigate threats to the president? What about the extremely divisive nature of the comment?
It's simply inappropriate.
If one of our colleagues can come to the board and make an impassioned plea for people not to mock Elizabeth Warren, then certainly the same standard could be applied regarding (apparent) calls for the murder of our Commander in Chief.
Although many notaries don't seem to treat the commission with the respect it deserves, we are officers of the state, and some of us would do well to remember that we represent the governing bodies of our respective states and keep a civil tone. |
