The UWS has extensive experience with weather balloons going back to the 50s. they know how the rise, fall, how leaks affect it etc.
There was no need to use a missile. As soon as it crossed into Montana, put a hundred .50 cal rounds thru the balloon. It will gradually come to earth. If not fast enough, put another 100 rounds thru it. Now you have a semi controlled landing, a small debris field and mostly intact payload. Minor impact damage, no water damage. Don't give me the BS about being worried about "possible property damage" and threat to people over land. |
