Re: You should require payment upfront. Then if it does not

I'm on an approved notary list in my County, I'm not sure how I got there but I suspect it was because I do this a lot for the county defenders office. That's like a golden key so when I present my ID they cross reference it then treat me like a bail bondsman. I always have the document, stamp, journal, pen and thumb inker in hand and ready to go when called.

Leave your cell phone and briefcase in the car. When you meet with the inmate you tell them exactly what to do and nothing else. Work quickly account for the pen and when finished leave quickly.

I guess a Women that intends to do notary work in jails should be aware of the dress code. But there is no safety issue. A deputy will escort you to the Sallie port or attorney room and shackle the signer to the table for your protection, no worries. Negotiate your fees with the client ahead of time so you don't get burned.

(story) Late one afternoon I was watching the local news and they were featuring the arraignment of a suspected murderer. As they were opening with the story my cell rang and it was one of my criminal lawyer clients calling to as if I would go down to Central jail and obtain a POA. About the same time the suspect's was named and I asked my client if it was "john smith"? Why yes he said... how did I know? Just watched his arraignment I said.

I could brag that In the last 17 years I have notarized documents for some of the most famous killers and rapists in my county.
