Even if you were related...does it matter? What are VA's rules on that?

I've notarized mortgage docs for family members with both my same last name, maiden name...and even first name. But in all of those cases, they were for transactions for which I had no financial interest,nor ever would. I have no problem with that. I know some people avoid it...but I only avoid it if there's a potential issue. For example, I'd never notarize refi docs for my Mom's house... but I would for my aunt's.

It does seem odd that they'd reject docs simply because of a similar name.
