It won't matter much for me after July 1. On that date our new notary law, Vermont's version of RULONA, goes into effect for most purposes. We will be allowed to use short form certificates which are worded so that there are no pronouns.
I could use other wording that's already printed on the instrument, but from my experience, most of the pre-printed certificates won't be acceptable. That's because if I don't use the short-form certificate, word-for-word from the law, I must make sure everything I did to comply with the law is written out. So if I had to check the person's ID, the certificate must say I verified the person's identity. If it's an oath or affirmation, the person's name must be in the certificate, and so on.
So I expect I will usually be replacing the pre-printed certificates with loose certificates, or writing the certificate by hand on the document. |
