Yes, Janet, Indiana did pass legislation--and it was signed into law--authorizing RON (Indiana SB 539), and the wording pertaining to RON is scheduled to take effect this July. FYI, SB539 when initially presented in 2017 did not include any reference to RON. It was removed after committee so that the SOS and legislators could make sure they had the verbiage they felt appropriate and that outstanding issues from the 2017 committee hearings were addressed to the satisfaction of all parties.
I have recently seen press releases and articles that Michigan (PA330), Kentucky (SB114), Ohio (SB263), and Tennessee (SB1758) have also passed legislation that is also scheduled to take effect this year. Also, per a 12/13/2018 press release from Notarize:
"Ohio is the latest victory in the online notarization movement. It is the sixth state to approve legislation in 2018 - joining Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Vermont - while 10 other states introduced similar legislation during the latest legislative cycle." |
