Yes, I would seriously be angry at 24-7...but that is no reason to put innocent people in jeopardy. The borrowers did nothing to you. As a professional, your responsibility lies with the customers you serve---ultimately the borrowers, as without them, there would be no signing agents. A different tactic might have been to take the signing and advise the title company that you have major concerns about being paid for this signing based on your history with 24-7 and that you request some reassurances before proceeding. Basically, you let them know you took the signing during a weak moment and you will certainly perform admirably, but any efforts they can make on your behalf to ensure your payment would be appreciated. This would have accomplished your goal.
Personally, I never would have taken the assignment in light of your history with the signing company....and I tend to try to live by the Golden Rule....When you have a refi or a home equity personally and experience a rate lock expiration, I certainly hope that you do not have any notary assigned who has an axe to grind with a signing company.
