I believe the dam itself is intact and not in any danger, but the reservoir behind it is full. With the expectation of more rain this weekend, they're having to drain off some of the water to make room for more and the spillways to do that are what they're having trouble with. Also, the land to the side of the dam where the spillways are is the biggest concern. If that area buckles, it could unleash way too much water for the areas downstream to handle. I saw on the news that they're very busy loading boulders into the area for reinforcement. I sure hope they're successful!! |
