In a past life as a bank teller, I'll say you can feel the difference in a counterfeit bill. Give it a few squeezes and you should be able to tell that it's not real. Once a counterfeit bill reaches the bank, it's pulled out of the deposit and is sent to the Secret Service for investigation. And no, the bank doesn't replace it for you.
