"Issued executive order on immigration"
Which has gone nowhere, and they just announced that a new one won't be ready until sometime next week rather than this week as we were originally told. Stephen Miller went on one of the network news shows and announced that the new order will be essentially the same as the old order with a few technical tweaks - which basically gives the ACLU lawyers ammunition to go into court with. So now they have to start over again. They need to put Miller on the same bench that Kellyanne is now sitting on.
"Chosen a Supreme Court nominee"
That's his job - he's supposed to do that, it's not a notable accomplishment. The Court has been short-handed for over a year because the Republicans refused to allow Obama do HIS job. The real question is whether he can be confirmed.
"Reset tone of relationship with world leaders"
Yes, he has certainly done that. Our allies are nervous and our enemies are laughing at us. I'm not sure this is a good thing, but it is an accomplishment.
"Presided over ICE raids"
If by "presided over" you mean he directed them - no, that was all DHS, which has said they received no direction or instructions from the WH. Trump has a long history of taking credit for what other people have done.
"Rolled back regulations"
Which ones, specifically? He has canceled some Obama regulations that have not been implemented yet, so that's not a rollback. He HAS issued an EO that would require two regulations to be rescinded for every new one created, but he can't just start slashing regulations that have already been implemented - that's Congress's job.
"Got the Keystone Pipeline moving again"
A pipeline that will be built with Canadian steel. I thought the new normal was going to be to hire American and buy American. Speaking of which, did you know that a reporter went to the Trump Store at Trump Tower and was told by staff that everything there was made in the USA. The reporter took pictures of the labels on as many products as she could - not one of them was made here, When is he bringing HIS manufacturing jobs back home? "US will be withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal with 11 other Pacific countries."
Hillary would have done the same - although she originally supported it and called it the "gold standard", she revised her position on it because there were parts added later that she didn't agree with. The TPP was dead no matter who got elected, so at best that's a push.
"froze the hiring of federal government workers with the exception to national security employees."
With unforeseen consequences. Already, at least two military bases have closed their daycare facilities to new military families because they cannot keep them staffed. Although the memo says agencies can't hire outside contractors to get around the freeze, there is a general belief that they will be forced to do exactly that and bury the cost somewhere in their budget. There's a right way and a wrong way to do this. It's one thing to reduce a workforce by attrition, but something else entirely to gut a department by not filling essential positions. There's been no review of how a department operates - someone leaves, the position can't be filled. If everyone in the department leaves, the department ceases to exist. Has anyone checked to see whether the department is essential? This is Bannon and Miller telling Trump what to do. Trump claims to be a great businessman, but he's really not. What he is a good salesman. No CEO who knows what he is doing would approach the problem this way. |
