Trump has the attention span of a 2-year old puppy - whatever the next moving object is, he's on it. Today's moving object is tax reform, something he has no real plan for. Chances are we'll hear two things in his speech - that the US has the highest tax rate in the world, which is untrue but a lie he keeps repeating, and that he thinks the corporate tax rate should be reduced to 15%. There will be no suggestions for a path forward, he'll just punt it to Congress. Someone forgot to tell him that part of the President's job is to suggest and lobby for specific legislation to advance his agenda; his form of governing is to throw out a vague notion and, like Captain Picard, sit back and say, "Make it so!"
He probably should be more focused on Hurricane Irma at this point - his beloved Mar-a-Lago is currently right in the path. This sets up an interesting scenario - if his resort experiences significant hurricane damage, will taxpayer dollars be funneled to repair it at the expense of other properties in the area? |
