Re: BLATANT DISREGARD FOR NOTARY LAW

This brings up another issue or two. Notary journals are notebooks with spaces for several signings. Therefore, anyone who is sitting there waiting for the notary to fill in the blanks can read everything else on the page. In an area where everyone knows everyone, that would be a problem.

Since I am a traveling notary, all my notary supplies are in a side pocket of my handbag. I started keeping a homemade notary journal that will fit in my bag. I found bound 3x5 cards. I prefer the ones that are 100 pages but I have to go to the big city office supply to get them. If I am doing a closing or if I am notarizing something that has several people signing, I may need more than one page, in which case I number the pages and identify them by date and the main person's name. I never asked if that is permissible, but since it is logical to me and certainly convenient and efficient, that is what I do.
I label the outside with dates it was used and sometimes other information such as the time a man had multiple neighbors sign a notarized petition in which their information covered many pages I then put a note that that was inside.

At one time, we were expected to put our used notary journals in the county clerk's office. Years ago, our county clerk told me that there was no room for notary journals so I just kept them at my home office. I have not checked in recent years nor have I heard whether this expectation has changed. That concept is very different from today's expectations of privacy.
