GNW pays much better.
Example: I live two minutes from a Starbucks, I meet many people there. One day I was to meet someone at 7:00 am for notarizing one signature. I have a standard rate when I meet a client there. And yes, I charge for travel/convenience which is added on to the per notarized signature rate.
I finish, and am driving into my garage. I receive a call to do another notarization. I go back to Starbucks, same fee. As I'm there, I receive two more calls. I'm here at Starbucks, if you can be here within 10 minutes, I can only charge you for the notarization. That's fine with me. So, within an hour, I made more money on the spot, than most SS's and some TC's will pay you in 30, 60 or 90 days.
Signings are now a "fill-in" for me. Love doing them when I can receive a fee I'm worth and the hiring entity is easy to work with and has it together. Very few out there like this anymore.
