The only FedEx box in our county is about a mile from the house. I know the pick up time and I've met the regular delivery person. There are no staffed stations here.
I have had a problem with the box not being fully stocked. The delivery person told me that he fully stocks it but it often runs out. I have noticed that that mostly occurs after a weekend. In the past, I have had to make a legal-sized envelope out of envelopes from home. I started carrying FedEx envelopes in the car. Surprisingly, that worked for a general notary assignment once when the people said they needed to ship it back. I could give them an envelope.
On Monday I had a signing that finished after pick-up time. On Tuesday, I went to drop it. I had the envelope but this particular company gives me their payment code to send to the recipient. There were no labels for the envelope. I wrote on the front with the payment code, a message that there were no labels, "from" and "to" and my phone number. As soon as I dropped it, I remembered the tracking number.
Maybe I should have just delivered it but the recipient title company is in another county about 45 miles away.
I called FedEx but didn't like having to guess which words the recording wanted to hear: "question", "tracking number", "problem", "label", etc. So I looked up a store in the area. The person who answered did not have an answer to where the package goes next but had two suggestions. She said that the reason that the shipping department has an 800 number is "because they don't want to answer questions when they are busy". I called them back and reached someone who said that a tracking number would be placed on the envelope when the shipping site receives it. Meanwhile, the signing company has asked what the tracking number is. I called the 800 number again, finally saying "human being". The man who answered got all my information and told me that the package would be delivered tomorrow. Fine. I need the tracking number, too. "Oh, we aren't allowed to give out tracking numbers." I explained that I needed it for the company that sent the documents to me. He had all my information. No customer service.
I have never had any other problems with them. This rigamarole surprises me. |
