In my mind, it's really not a case of what's "legal" or not, and it's not "refusing to notarize". It's a question of whether you should go to an appointment that hasn't been confirmed. I leave that decision to the title company or signing service that hired me. If they want me to go, I'll go. Usually, if I let them know at least a few hours before the appointment that I haven't been able to contact the signer, they'll attempt to contact the signer themselves and they'll either tell me that it's confirmed or they'll tell the signer to call me. I've never "not gone" to an appointment that I had scheduled unless I was told up front that it was cancelled or postponed. |
