well as for on the spot general notary work. More and more, people prefer to pay via card, and I've have people call me and say the reason they chose to have me come to them vs another notary is because I take cards. For GNW this is especially true, because have to leave work/home to go get cash, they won't bother waiting for me, they just go find another notary. So, with GNW, especially, it's really handy because they don't have to go anywhere.
With other clients, you tell them you can take payment upfront via CC. Square lets you email an invoice to them. Works really well for me. I haven't used paypal in years.
With Square, I have the money in my account the next day. To protect myself, that's more of a 'holding' account -- in that the money is then transferred from the 'AR' account as I call it, to my regular business operating account. This way, if there is a charge back (which hasn't happened yet!) it won't mess up my operating budget. People would be pretty dumb to try to charge back fees for notary work, though... after all, I have proof in my journal (thank you State of CA and your picky anal retentive journaling laws). |
