Re: Signing under duress: has it happened at one of your jobs?

Happened at once confirming the apt. It was for an elderly woman, and when I called to confirm, she picked up the hone instead of her daughter. She had no clue what a refi was or what this was about or even the day. I called the SS, and told them, and then 45 minutes later I was asked to call back, and when I did was told, she just woke up, having a bad day, try her again now.
No thanks, I turned back the closing. I didn't need a rehearsed speech to try to convince me she was of sound mind.

Another similar situation is when I showed up about 15 minutes early, the elderly women answered the door. She didn't now what the apt was for, who I was, and what that was about. I made sure she was her, thanked her for her time, and left after calling the title company. Sad, but the last thing I want o be a part of is that.
****
I think your situation where you were trapped, she was in bed, was clearly something I would have excused myself and left. Problem being, she may have been beaten when you were gone or God knows what. The man was angry, and would fault her and who knows what could have happened. I have been in touchy situations where paper snatched out of my hand and door blocked, even wanting a copy of my ID (nope). Good thing I am pretty tall and hold my own, but scary stuff out there dealing with unstable people and good thing rarely happens.
