course. First, you need to know your notary laws completely. 2nd, you need to be familiar with loan docs & be prepared to give a quick one-line description of each document. As far as equipment, you absolutely need a laser printer. It's a requirement in the industry & you'd go broke printing loan pkgs. on ink jet anyway. You can start with an inexpensive one with one tray (some available for about $100) but then you'll have to print all the docs on legal size paper. Be prepared for the costs of doing business--printer, toner, paper, etc. Almost no one is using a fax machine anymore, but many of us have a sheet fed scanner that costs about $300. Some cos. require "faxbacks", especially if it's a purchase & needs to fund immediately. There are scanner apps. available for most cell phones, & that might get you started at least. You can always tell them you're not equipped for faxbacks, too. As far as fees are concerned, only the best are getting $150 these days. The industry has changed & there are cos. offering as little as $70. They will also prey on newbies. When you do get an assignment, be sure to check Signing Central for the comments left by other notaries. There are a lot of deadbeats out there. Good luck & I wish you success. |
