situation come up yesterday where the borrowers chose their attorney's office as the location & I wasn't advised until the last minute. In speaking with them, they had a lot of problems with their current lender, Chase, and were leary of the whole process. I respected that. It was a bit of a tense situation for me, because I didn't know how this attorney (real estate atty) was going to handle the whole situation. This was a huge 183-page VA refi as it was. He started to ask me how I handled these, and was fishing to see if I crossed the line into UPL. I assured him that I "review" the docs, but do not "explain" then or advise the borrower in any way. He started going into detail about the CD, etc. I thought, OMG, we're going to be here all day! LOL I have given him the copy pkg. to follow along, and add his comments when necessary. He finally backed off & let me go through them. I did stop at one point & ask him if he was ok with the way I was handling it. I know the borrowers were paying him a lot more than I was getting paid, etc., so he had to justify his fee. I'd drag it out, too, if I was being paid $300/hr. LOL I walked away not understanding why the attorney hadn't handled the entire signing. The LO called me later that afternoon to apologize that it had come up at the last minute. This is what being a professional is all about. In the end I was concerned that the borrowers felt confident in the process. They were great people & were nothing but gracious about the whole situation. I walked away feeling I had gained their trust & respect. Just another day in the life of a NSA! LOL |
