I'm sorry to hear about these horrible fires in your area Cheryl. Not only does it make it hard for traveling to your signings, it's scary knowing your home could be affected by them. We have a lot of road closures here in Minnesota this summer due to road construction which has made it very difficult to get around to my closings as well and the GPS doesn't always know when a road is going to be closed. It's just another thing us notary signing agents have to deal with in order to do what we do. Most everyone is aware that we deal with unexpected road closures during the course of our travels, but every once in a while you get an irritated borrower or hiring party who just doesn't understand. I once had a hiring party tell me that I am supposed to already know every single road that is closed in my signing area so as not to ever be late for an appointment.
As far as card skimming goes, I hear about this quite often on the news. Thank you for sharing this. There are so many times when I have to basically make a pit stop into a gas station for gas on my way to signings and you're not always paying attention when you're thinking about making it to the next signing on time, or if docs are going to get to you in time for a signing you have later. It is a reminder that we need to be aware of our surroundings when we are out on the road doing closings.
