True point about recording certified copies...VA notaries ARE authorized to make certified copies of originals...however VA law is clear on one point, as follows:
"Under the Virginia Notary Act, a notary may not perform any notarial act with respect to any document if: The notary is a party to the document The notary’s spouse is a party to the document The notary is a signatory or is named in the document The notary or his or her spouse has a “direct beneficial interest” in the document"
I VA electronic notary, once they notarize the doc, *may* now be construed as a party to the doc and can't certify the copy.
