Well some of us are still around trying to be helpful by providing honest advice, positive, factual and verifiable information about this profession whenever possible.
..."the advise you might get now isn't necessarily helpful".
I would've agreed to this a few weeks ago, however, since forum has been somewhat cleansed of those who post personal blogs, non-work related posts, negative infused or baited posts or purely self-serving, I honestly can not agree with that statement now.
It will not take long for newcomers to this forum to learn which posts here have value and which don't. I do believe in being encouraging to newcomers, though this is not to be confused with hand holding. The phrase, "the orange search button" is truly a great one and not meant to, at least when I post it, be demeaning though I can understand how it can. Sometimes the written word can be construed into something that its not meant to, and it sucks because you can never truly be sure how the person who posted it felt, were they being facetious or helpful? For example, when texting came out, it took me a while before I started as I believed (and still do) it is sometimes misinterpreted and way to often used as an excuse not to talk to people over the phone. (Not to get off topic, but I read this article earlier this year about texting and found it interesting.)

I do believe that adding a positive note like "good job" or "you're awesome" to deserving posts is not a bad thing either, as I can only see this as a way of encouraging for more similar posts as well as promoting much needed positivity on the forum. |
