The requirements for the classes, under state law, do specify that new notaries have to take a 6-hour class and renewing notaries have to take a 3-hour class. So it makes sense that any authorized outfit providing training will need to have some way of proving that their classes meet those time requirements. That's nothing new. So it sounds to me like that organization is having problems proving that their program meets the requirements for them to be an authorized source of training. If your renewal is coming up, you may want to see if you can get your money back, since they're not able to provide what you paid for.
I recommend the online training program available right here on Notary Rotary. (If you're a Premier Member, it's free. I think it's available under the Resources tab.) As Mike said, it's a pretty simple matter to be able to tell if someone was logged on for at least the minimum amount of time. The practice exams offered with the NotRot classes are also tough enough that passing the actual proctored exam is simple.
