I think "general" came from the wording in a state's notary manual. It wasn't a good word to use.

In my state starting next July 1, there will only be two recommended acknowledgement certificates, here:

The one in the middle of page 21 is for an individual acting for himself. The one on the bottom of page 21 is "for an acknowledgment in a representative capacity". Those will be the only two recommended acknowledgement certificates.
