I get your frustration and am sorry you feel you wasted money to become a notary; however you have to see it's for the consumer's protection. It is what it is and I'm sure if you went the distance and got licensed you'd probably make it back in spades...it's an investment in your business and your professional development.
I honestly wish ALL states would require more training for people who do closings...seriously. There are far to many out there who get the notary commission and think that's all there is to it - and it's not. You're handling what is probably the single most important financial transaction these borrowers ever had - I don't feel training and licensing in this area is a *ridiculous* requirement at all.
Sorry you were mislead. Your angst would be better spent against the organization that steered you wrong. n the meantime, develop your general notary side of the business, become a great notary, and maybe re-think getting your license.
