It's probably not even her name, although it could be the name of a real person.
A while back, there was a spate of phishing emails purportedly coming from an escrow company at an address near me. It's a real escrow company, but someone was just using their name and address fraudulently. Ironically, soon after that, I got a call from someone to do an in-office signing there that was legit. In fact, one of the signers worked as a RE agent in that same building for many years, and had used that escrow firm. (They weren't involved in the transaction we signed, but they'd requested use of their office for the signing because of that. I was hoping to get a chance to go upstairs to the escrow office to let them know about the spoofing, but it was a late afternoon signing and they'd already locked up by the time we finished.)
I guess the point is that we need to proceed with extreme caution whenever contacted by anyone who isn't a client we know, and ask lots of questions... |
