I had one last night that didn't start that way, but ended up that way. It was for a very good ss, got docs the night before and thought I was all good for a 7:00 pm signing. Late afternoon (5ish), I get a call from the signer saying he was still in a city at least an hour away (depending on traffic), and wanting to know what was the latest I could meet with him. We ended up deciding to shoot for 8:30, and that he'd text me when on his way.
I didn't mind at first, because that freed me to meet some friends visiting from out of town for dinner. I hadn't heard from him by 8:30, so I texted him, asking if he had an ETA yet. He called me right away, said he'd know once he entered it into his GPS and would text it to me asap. We agreed that I'd plan to meet him there at the time he was due to arrive. It was almost 9:00 pm by then and text arrived very soon after, saying ETA was 1 hour...
This was to be a pretty simple signing for my full ss fee, or my attitude would have been much worse, but I still wasn't thrilled, naturally. One hour later, I'm about 1 min from his house when I get another text advising he's still 30 minutes away! So for roughly 30 minutes, I was in my car cooling my heels in front of his house, messing around on my phone when I could have been doing something productive at home. He finally showed up at 10:24 pm! (Thankfully, I was out of there in less than 20 minutes.)
Upside is that this was a very large commercial loan, local lender was very happy it got done and they ended up sending someone to me to pick up the documents so they'd have them today. (And at least I'm confident I won't have to chase my payment.)
This is just one more reason why some of us insist on sticking to our (somewhat higher than average) fees...
