True, but that's just half the equation - legislation has to pass both Houses. And there are some things that are reserved for the Senate, such as confirming nominations. That's a major shift in power to the minority.
As for the Electoral College - every state gets a minimum of 3 votes. Worst case scenario, that's 105 votes spread over 35 states, and 433 spread over 15 states with most states being winner take all. Guess where the campaigns will be concentrated? The concept stops making sense at that point because now you would have a handful of states deciding who will be President. Might as well go to a direct election so everyone's voice is heard. |
