Re: "Will you drive 82 miles one way...

I've driven that far before... and longer... but you darn well better believe I got paid for it! I had one a few months ago just north of Los Angeles, and they were desperate. This was a 2 hour drive for me... and they wanted it done that evening. The borrower was "extremely important" to them and they were only calling their absolutely trusted notaries to get it done. The borrower was somebody "in the industry" and I was to meet with them on a TV set.

I found it hard to believe that they couldn't find ANYONE closer, but they said they couldn't. I quoted them over $300, knowing full well that they wouldn't pay me to do it. It happened to be that I had an errand I had to run in that direction anyway... not necessarily that day, but eventually, so I figured I could do both. I got the "I've got to get that approved" line.... and shockingly they called me back, approved it AND offered to put me up in a hotel that night (a Hilton, on their account), on the condition that I drove the package to their offices the next morning (it was about 20 minutes from the hotel). They said if I did that for them, they'd have my check waiting for me when I dropped off the docs.

I didn't even hesitate to accept.

Clearly... I don't get many like that. But I am asked to drive 60-90 minute distances all the time. Those jobs are always $175-$250 or more, depending on the circumstances. $125?? Yeah... not happening.
