Mike is likely correct in saying: "Unless this late 1099 would somehow push your income higher than what you've already reported, it probably isn't even going to register. " However, Mike also wrote: "You don't report income by client, so what could the IRS be matching to?" In my NSA life, every tax return I've prepared either through Turbo tax or have had prepared by a CPA lists each 1099 individually, the payer's name, their federal identification number, amount paid, etc. on Form 1099-MISC. (I don't really know if that form goes in with the return or not.) But certainly all of these 1099s are sent to the IRS by the payer and then computer matched with the filer's EIN or SS#. That's the whole point. These 1099s are like mini W-2s And, of course, no CPA would ever send copies of our 1099s to the IRS.

The IRS is probably up to its ears in late and/or incorrect 1099s and has been down this road before, so unless something in roadie's tax return sparked their interest (I've heard they pick on Schedule C filers), maybe it's best she not rock the boat. (No good deed goes unpunished.)
