I have had many situations like this. YOU need to act in charge, let who ever is in thte room know this and don't be afraid to ask them to leave if you feel it is needed. Nearly blind and or deaf persons will often have technology there to assist them.
If you have done this a while you get a feel as soon as you walk in and see who is present.
