You make a great point, Steve. There are tons of apps out there (and other programs like FB, LinkedIn, etc.) that routinely ask for permission to access contact lists. For some (if not many), I think it may be very easy to not even see that question, especially if someone has given blanket permissions as a default, although that probably varies with different phones and OS's.
I'm with Steve on this one. I never give permission to access my contact list. And if an account provider (like Yahoo) seems to continuously get hacked, I don't use it. (I dropped a misc. Yahoo account I had a long time ago.) I'm also in the process of trying to eliminate an EarthLink account I've had for personal use for decades, so anyone trying to migrate away from a long-term Yahoo account has my sympathies! |
