I was confused about what exactly it is that you're proposing and the link given in the second post doesn't work anymore. I found another link about the new IDs in the LA Times, but it didn't say anything about voter registration, so I did a little bit of Google searching. Here are a couple of the links I found:

These days, there is so much misinformation flowing around from all kinds of different sources, so I find I'm doing more fact checking than ever before. I guess that's the price we pay for living in the age of modern technology and social media...
For the record, if I can remember back that far, the prior method for registering to vote just involved filling out a paper form that could simply be mailed in.
