If you do have a property for rent, these people pose as you and advertise a false listing on Craigslist, FRBO, other places and show fake pictures, and such. They collect the money and deposits from unsuspecting people all the time. When the people show up, there is no house,but their money is long gone. It's big business in south FL, and in fact I notified property owners personally of such a scam when renting in Boca. I called a listing and then looked up the tax records and found completely different names, the outside of the house was the same, but inside was different per real owner. They thanked me so much, and did their own investigation from there when I gave them the information.
These people do not have good chuckles and do this stuff for fun, it's an illegal business that rakes in tons of money. He was perhaps fishing information from you to post his ad. jmo |
