I'm not sure about how secure they are but from what I understand it's either your own mobile hot spot from your cell phone or a data plan for you iPad. I'm new to this and have had to decline Hybrid closings for now because my carrier won't give me a hot spot without changing my plan. I think my only other option is a cellular data plan.
