One other thing to keep in mind is that the cc companies will no longer protect you against fraudulent transactions with the mag-stripe reader, as they will with the new chip cards. You're on your own if you stick with the old readers, but they can be useful as a back-up in a pinch.
I've had a couple of times where I couldn't get my new chip reader to sync with my cell phone, probably because of signal problems, but the mag-stripe reader worked fine. You also have to recharge the new chip reader which wasn't an issue with the old ones. Kind of a pain to now have one more thing to plug in and keep charged. |
