I don't know that SD, in particular, is primarily responsible for lower fees. I think it's signing services in general that are responsible. I've found that the non-SD signing services don't pay any higher fees (and in many cases lower) than SD based companies. When a SS takes, on average, 50% or more of the notary fee paid by Escrow, for doing little or nothing in most cases, that really hurts.
